Club shooting rules
- These rules
interpret or supplement the GNAS rules of shooting and are intended to help
Club archers to shoot safely and without interfering with the shooting of
other archers.
- The GNAS rules
of shooting will be followed. All archers are expected to have a working knowledge
of the GNAS rules of shooting. They are published by GNAS and available in
archery shops or from the GNAS Website.
- All archers
are expected to assist in the laying out of targets prior to shooting and
stripping down the targets on completion of shooting.
- All archers
will shoot from a common shooting line, with the targets positioned at distances
required. For outdoor shooting, the longest distance should be either next
to the trees or next to the car park depending on whether shooting along or
across the field. Change of distance should be effected by moving the targets
unless all archers change distance at the same time. All archers should assist
with any change of distance. See also rule 7
- The maximum
number of archers shooting at any one target is normally 4. If a target is
full, get out an extra target or shoot a different distance.
- An archer should
shoot no more than six arrows per end, unless they can comfortably shoot more
without holding up other archers who are only shooting six arrows.
- A split shooting
line may operate if the Field Captain believes it safe to do so and there
is sufficient distance between targets - typically the 'training line' is
50 yards from the normal shooting line so the 2 can be operated independently
when coaching sessions are underway.
- The most senior
Committee member present or, in the absence of any Committee member, the most
experienced club archer present will be Field Captain.
- Any directions
from the Field Captain must be followed at all times. This is for the safety
of all concerned - always remember that the bow you are holding has the potential
to be a lethal weapon at anything up to 200 yards (ask the French)!
- Arrows lost
on the ground MUST be found to protect other users of the ground from injury.
Other archers should assist in looking for any lost arrows to minimise any
disruption to shooting. A metal detector and rake are available for this purpose.
If a school pupil is injured by a 'lost' arrow this could lose our shooting
rights at the ground so it is vital that ALL lost arrows are recovered.
- Please keep
the lock-up in a clean and tidy state. Replace bosses and stands in the relevant
place.
- Any member who
chooses to leave his personal equipment in the club lock-up does so at their
own risk.
- If a certain
session is specified for a specific activity then other Club members should
respect this booking.
- All juniors
must be supervised by (a) a parent/guardian who is a GNAS member, (b) an adult
GNAS member AND a parent/guardian, or (c) a child protection approved GNAS
member
- Whenever representing
the Club at a shoot, please wear GNAS regulation dress, i.e. Green, white
or Club colours.
- The score of
any round shot at the Club or other location must be given to the Club Records
Officer.
- No arrows with
broadheads or heavy field piles may be used on Club bosses.
- No crossbows
may be used at the Club.
