Coaching courses

Courses run from 10:30 - 12:00 on Sunday mornings for 6 weeks. Course fees are £20 for juniors (aged 11 - 17), £40 for seniors.

Due to the level of demand for our courses, we strongly recommend that anyone wishing to attend pre-registers by completing a registration form (right-click here to download) and emailing it to us . Anyone who doesn't have access to email, please ring our chief coach, John Evans - John's details are on our 'contact' page.

Please note - GNAS regulations require that any Juniors wishing to attend will need parental consent to do so. All our coaching staff have the necessary clearances from the Police to work with children.

The club runs both coaching courses for beginners and refresher courses for returning archers. Our qualified coaching staff can train you in both the Recurve (also known as 'Olympic') and Compound styles of archery. All the necessary equipment for your training is provided by the club free of charge for the duration of the course.

Coaching courses last for 6 weeks and cover all the basics necessary to turn you from someone who doesn't know their limbs from their risers into an archer who is competent (and most importantly safe) to join the shooting line with the more experienced archers. The cost of the course is £20 for juniors and £40 for seniors. The first day of the course is a 'have a go for free' session, if you decide after the first lesson that you don't wish to continue with the course then there is no charge.

Due to recent increases in demand, we have changed from 'ad hoc' training for beginners, to scheduled 6-week courses. These run from 10:30 - 12:00 on Sundays (see our 'where we shoot' page for our location) and are run periodically through the outdoor season - roughly April to October. Dates of planned courses will be given both here and on our home page.

Coaching doesn't end once the course is complete. We want you to thrive as an archer and ongoing help and support to achieve your full potential - whether you are a 'leisure' archer or wish to progress to competitive shooting - is available both from the coaches and also from the more experienced archers in the club.

NB - We strongly recommend that you do NOT buy your own equipment until you have completed your training course - toward the end of the course, the coaches will discuss your equipment needs with you and can give you information on where you may be able to get 'package deal' discounts. To avoid possibly wasting significant sums of money please do NOT take unaccompanied forays into eBay unless you are 110% certain that what you are looking at is right for you - you have been warned!
